The game of poker is a pretty interesting thing. It’s all about strategies and if you believe that mainly because you’re gambling, you’ll only need luck, then that won’t get you anywhere at all. If you’re already an experienced poker player, you already know that playing as the tight-aggressive player is the way to go. Playing passively through games of poker won’t exactly get you anything big. But seriously, the main thing about poker is to fool your opponents into thinking otherwise. It is sometimes beneficial to modify the play styles as you play the game.
Fool Your Opponents
For one thing playing tight is a pretty easy task. Although it might get a bit boring at times, if you manage to gather all the patience required and end up with a supreme hand the game starts there. For one thing, you really shouldn’t let your opponents figure out you have a supreme hand on you. You can do this by faking to be playing a passive style. Let your opponents think that you only have a decent hand and let them do the raising and all you have to do is to simply call their bets. Of course, by the final phase of the round it’s time for you to make a raise of your own. If you are pretty sure that your card will win, you can then raise a huge amount of chips or you might even go all in and watch their faces as you slide your chips towards the pot. This is a pretty neat trick and the idea here is to make sure that you get the most out of your opponents during the first phases of the game – meaning, you don’t want to let your opponents fold during that time.
When to Raise
You have to make your opponents think that you’re playing passively by making calls or checks during the pre-flop, flop and the turn phase. The trick here is to simply call or check and when a player makes a bet as his act after your turn, you then make a raise in order to force the players who called the bet and also the one who made the bet call to yours. If ever they sense that you do have a supreme hand on you, they’ll immediately fold and of course, the pot with all the bets and calls is all yours for the taking. Of course, this is best done during the river phase of the game.
In poker, fooling your opponents is what matters. It’s not a game merely based on the player’s luck. It’s about tactics and strategies. It’s not exactly a matter of playing passively, you need to learn how to tweak certain play styles during the game to get the appropriate manner of playing and turn things to your advantage. This is also a good set up to make yourself unpredictable during the game.
