Poker has been one of the most popular card games as of today. Each day, more and more people are learning how to play the game. There are several types of players in the poker world and the best two types are probably the tight-aggressive and tight-passive players. Read along the article to learn more about the differences between the two styles and their corresponding pros and cons.
The Tight-Aggressive Player
So far, this style has been considered to be the best among the four styles of play in the game. If you ask the experienced players or even the professional players in the poker world, most likely what they’ll tell you is that this is the most practical method of playing the game. First of all, since the style plays tight as the game goes by, you won’t have to worry about losing your chips bit by bit by making calls during the early phases of the game. The tight aggressive player does not make unnecessary risks or bets. He just plays the supreme hands. The tight-aggressive player is noted to raise as much as possible once he gets a set of cards that are valuable. Another thing is that once he gets a hand that is worth playing, he goes on an aggressive mode – meaning that he aggressively bets or makes raises, intimidating his opponents. This is a neat thing about being aggressive is that he’ll then be protecting his hand and sometimes force his opponents to fold even if they have better hands on them. This is the most widely used playing style of the poker professionals, and this style can give you the biggest winnings as well.
The Tight-Passive Player
The tight passive player has its similarities with the tight-aggressive player. Well, they both make use of the tight style when in terms of choosing hands to play. They both play a very select few hands. The main difference between the two styles is that the tight-passive player does not take any action on his own at all, even if he gets a good set of cards. He just waits for his opponents to make bets and calls them, thus the term passive. The passive player has been said to be the weaker player of the two since he doesn’t have enough courage to make a bet on his own. This is also a pretty wasteful style of playing the game since the player limits the potential winnings because the player doesn’t exactly let the pot grow, although this style can sometimes be used to fool your opponents during the early turns of the game.
On the two types of styles mentioned above, it’s up to you to play whether the tight-aggressive or the tight-passive player. Although it is unadvised to play as a tight-passive player, you can switch playing styles when you are in the middle of the game. Switching between styles and strategies is one of the many key features of the game that makes it so much fun to play.
